FDM/FFF technology: How Filament Deposition 3D Printing Works

Our Printers use 3D printing technology FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling), Also known as FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication). And’ One of the most popular and accessible technologies for additive manufacturing. Used in both professional and hobby settings, This technology makes it possible to make objects layer by layer by melting a thermoplastic filament.

How an FDM/FFF 3D Printer Works?

  1. Preparation of the 3D Model

    • The process starts with a 3D model, usually in STL or OBJ, created with CAD modeling software or downloaded from online platforms.

    • The file is processed by slicing software (What Care, PrusaSlicer or Simplify3D), that divides the model into layers (strata) and generates the G-code, i.e. the instructions for the printer.

  2. Filament Extraction

    • The printer uses a filament of thermoplastic material (What PLA, ABS, PETG, TPU) wound in a coil.

    • The filament is fed to theextruder, where a Hotend (Heated head) melts it at a controlled temperature (usually between 180°C and 280°C, depending on the material).

  3. Layered Deposition

    • The molten material is deposited on a Print bed (build plate) following the path defined by the G-code.

    • The printer builds the object layer by layer, with a typical thickness between 0,05 mm and 0,3 mm.

    • Some printers include a heatbed to improve first layer adhesion and reduce warping (deformation).

  4. Cooling and Solidification

    • Once deposited, Material cools down quickly, solidifying and merging with the previous layer.

    • A cooling fan helps stabilize suspended parts (Bridging and overhang).

  5. Removing the Finished Part

    • When printing is complete, The object is removed from the plane.

    • Depending on your needs, can be subjected to Post-processing, (smoothing, painting, treatment with acetone for ABS, etc.).

How the immediate estimate service in 3D printing works?

To get an online quote for your online 3D print, just follow these simple steps:

  • First choose the type of plastic (PLA/PETG/RUBBER(TPU) /NYLON, and the desired color.
  • Select the percentage of filling the object (infill).
  • Upload (upload) of your STL file by clicking on the appropriate button
  • After a few moments, you will be able to see the approximate cost to print your object
  • At this point, fill in the form with your essential data which will be made visible at the same time as the cost of printing
  • Confirm the submission of the form with your details to send us a request to validate the offer generated by the system.

FAQ: Frequent questions of customers

How to calculate the cost of a 3D printing?

The cost of a 3D printing does not depend only on the size of the object, but it is the result of a combination of. The most important are:

  1. Material Used for 3D Printing, Example PLA, PETG, ABS e Nylon.
  2. Print time necessary for the 3D printer to create the object.
  3. Cost of electricity consumed to heat the extruder, the printing dish and to power the step -by -step engines and the control electronics.
  4. Cost for ordinary and extraordinary maintenance of 3D printers.
  5. Filling Density: A greater filling makes the object more robust but consumes more material and increases print time.
  6. Print Speed: Faster speed reduces time, but if excessive it can compromise the quality.
  7. Need for supports are printing that evidently require further material and additional printing time.
